The Dove Facts

What happens to the doves after they are released?
Our doves will fly back home to their loft. They have an instinctive homing ability that has been enhanced by training.

What type of training is involved?
The doves have been born at our loft and we have cared for them. Since a very young age, we have been training them by releasing them in varying  distances and direction from their home loft.

How long does it take for them to return home?
Our white doves are a variety of racing homing pigeons. Our birds can fly at speeds of up to 50 mph for an extended time. They often arrive at our home before we do.

Why won’t you release at night?
Homing pigeons do not fly at night. They use landmarks to help guide their way as part of their homing process.

What about the doves you find at the pet store?
Those birds are white ring neck doves and have been raised in captivity; they therefore lack a homing ability. They will fly to a tree and fall prey to predators and will not survive in the wild.

How do you prevent the birds from making a mess on our guests?
Our doves will be fed a special diet before the release which greatly reduces the possibility of accidents. If you choose to release the birds by hand we can not guarantee that an accident will not happen although it is highly unlikely.

At what point in the ceremony should the birds be released?
At church ceremonies, we recommend releasing the doves at the steps of the church at the conclusion of the ceremony. At an outdoor ceremony, the birds can be released at a climactic point to create a dramatic affect. We will consult with you before the event to determine the perfect moment for the release.

What time of day is best for release?
Our doves can be released from dawn until two hours before sunset, giving them enough time to find their way back home.

What if it rains on the day of the ceremony?
If it rains, we will not release the doves, and you will receive a refund. However, you can still have a beautiful decorative display at your event.

We want to take a moment to thank you for such a beautiful and memorable releasing of the doves on our special day, to symbolize and capture our eternal love for one another. The maid of honor, Lisa, and the best man, Thomas, gathered all our guests around to witness an ever-lasting view of the lovely and well-trained doves. It was commented by many of our guests as a beautiful touching detail to our wedding day.

It was great working with Mark Orme Dove Release. They provided a very wonderful service. Mark was very helpful with suggestions and ideas of how to release the doves during the wedding ceremony. The doves were so clean and pretty, and were gorgeous in the pictures. I am so happy that we featured them in the wedding.
